We had an awesome surprise last week that gave me the kick in the pants that I needed to pretty much polish off my goal list. My cousin and her family called and asked if they could stop by on their way home from vacation. I was absolutely thrilled to see them (they live about 8 hours away) and repay the hospitality they showed me when I was down for our grandfather’s funeral in June.
The only negative – having about five hours to get my house ready for overnight guests! To be honest I really didn’t stress about it – to much I’ve shared my tactics for keeping my house “semi-company ready”. You can read about that here, here and here. When I found out they were coming I called my daughter who was able to get a jump start on the bed linens while I did the grocery shopping. Belle pretty much had the house ready while all I had to do was scrub the bathtubs. The way I looked at it, two years from now they weren’t going to remember how spotless (or not) my house was, just how much fun they had with the visit!
Last week’s goals
Write Friday’s post Clean both bathrooms thoroughly Lemon oil living room furniture Finish organizing pantry (why doesn’t this ever stay organized?)
Pretty much everything was crossed off my list (the pantry wasn’t spotless but I got it fairly organized)
This week is another crazy week at work. I don’t even know why I acknowledge that it’s crazy since they all seem to be. As I’ve gotten older I’ve gotten more realistic about what I can really accomplish. When I’m putting in 10 hours a day plus an hour and a half commute (that’s both ways), I can’t expect that I’m going to be able to do a boatload of stuff around the house. With that being said, here is what I need to get accomplished this week:
This Week’s Goals
- Bake and decorate 5 dozen cupcakes (my husband has another training session and my cupcakes have become an expectation)
- Write a post for Friday (Wednesday’s is already scheduled)
- Start organizing the laundry/storage room. Michael is getting ready to move out (he’s hoping the end of this month) and he’s taking some items from our storage room that I can’t quite get to. This is another room that no matter how hard I try I struggle with sustainability)
- Clean out my dresser drawers – fall is right around the corner so it’s a perfect time to go through those little worn items!
That’s it for me. If I can get these items accomplished I’ll feel pretty good. What’s on your to-do list?
