As low key as my menu was last week I didn’t do a very good job sticking to it.  I did make the steak – I mean come on, who would pass up steak!! but taco night I ended up taking Belle out for wine and cheese.  OK – I drank wine while she had lemonade but we had a nice evening.

I also ended up taking an impromptu trip to Chicago for a day so that also messed up some of my plans.  Oh well, I try to roll with the punches and not get uptight when my week doesn’t go as planned.

This week is a little weird because Mike and I ended up grocery shopping last week Wednesday – I know, crazy early! – so I didn’t really have a chance to menu plan before shopping.  Fortunately our freezer is pretty well stocked so I did have some choices.  I also ran to the store yesterday for some snacks (I think I overdosed on chips and dip!) and grabbed a couple of steaks again.  My guilty pleasure!

In the past I’ve shared that my grocery bill is out of control.  Over half of the bill is specific stuff that Mike wants for his special diet.  There really isn’t much I can do about that stuff as he wants what he wants.  I’ve learned to pick my battles and as long as we can afford it, that’s not a sword I’m willing to fall on.  However, I do know that saving money on groceries is on many of your minds so I thought I’d share a resource that I found.

Money Saving Mom recently launched a course that teaches you how to save on groceries.  I haven’t used the course myself but thought I’d share it with you since it’s relatively inexpensive.  The course is a little over 2 hours and costs ~$10.  Here is a link to the site.  Note:  That link is an affiliate link.

Weekly Menu

Here’s my menu for the week.  I had the steaks for dinner today, I’m also grilling the brats and hamburgers up today so that they’re available all week long to heat up whenever we want them.  When I cook up the food in advance I find that I”m less tempted to eat out during the week.

Weekly Goals

I’ve really been struggling with laziness lately.  Maybe it’s because work has been so busy, maybe it’s because it’s summer.  I really can’t say but I hate not getting anything done.

This weekend I did get some stuff done.  I organized a bathroom drawer that has been bugging me since Michael moved out.  A year ago.  While the bathroom I shower in is downstairs, I’ve found that Belle and I trying to get ready at the same time is a little bit of a pain.  When Michael moved out last year I moved some of my stuff upstairs into his drawers but hadn’t cleaned out all the stuff that he left.  I took care of that this weekend, it felt good to cross that off my list.

I also finally ordered our cushions from This End Up.  As I shared earlier this year I needed to do something with out living room furniture.  Our current slip-covers are torn and desperately need to be replaced.  While I really wanted to buy new furniture, the $13,000 price tag that went with the set that I wanted just wasn’t in the budget.  Since I’d rather go without than not absolutely love what I buy (we have really struggled to find something in our price range) I’ve decided to buy new cushions for the couch.  In the past I’ve made slip-covers but this time the cushions themselves really need to be replaced.  I spent about $1,100 for new cushions and slip-covers.  The slip-covers are not my favorite so I’ll probably sew some new ones up myself when I get a chance.

Here are my goals for this week.

  • Pre-schedule two – three weeks over posts over at Chick Chat This and That
  • Write and post three times here
  • Sew one new slip cover for couch (I have some left-over material from last time that I’m going to use)
  • Finish up my last on-line class
  • Swim twice this week before week.

    • I’ve found that cooking up food on Sunday and reheating it throughout the week really helps limit our eating out. It’s really hard to justify delivery when you’ve already done the cooking 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.
